TROUBLE WITH UPDATING YOUR BIKE?

Updates matter. Sometimes Bluetooth doesn't cooperate. Here's how to sort it yourself first.

Troubles with an update, follow these steps.

We only push an update when it's worth having: new features, security improvements, or fixes that keep your bike running the way it should. So yes, we do recommend installing it.

There are two ways to update your Raleigh ONE: over Bluetooth, or over the air if you're on an ICON membership. Whichever one you're using, pick a moment when you're not in a rush. That way, if anything does go wrong, you won't be stressed about a bike that isn't working the way it should.

ICON members: updates over the air

On an ICON membership, you don't need to be anywhere near your bike to update it. OTA (over-the-air) updates are activated remotely, your bike updates itself without you lifting a finger.

We'd suggest activating it in the evening, at a moment when you know you won't need the bike again until the next morning. OTA updates take longer than Bluetooth updates, so give it time rather than assuming something's wrong.

If an OTA update fails, try it again first. Still no luck? Switch to a Bluetooth update instead, using the steps below, and if that fails too, work through the rest of this article.

Updating over Bluetooth

Updates travel to your bike over Bluetooth, and Bluetooth, being Bluetooth, doesn't always behave. If yours is stalling, failing, or stuck halfway, run through the steps below, they solve it in almost every case.

Before you start

  • Park it. You can technically ride during an update, but don't. Let it finish first, it only takes a few minutes.
  • Stay close. Keep your phone within arm's reach of the bike for the whole update, not just the start.
  • Keep the app open and awake. Don't lock your phone or switch apps mid-update.
  • Check the battery. Both the bike's and your phone's. A drained battery on either end is enough to stop an update cold.

If it still fails

  • Restart the app, then restart the update from scratch.
  • Turn the bike off and on again, then reconnect before retrying.
  • Move somewhere with fewer other Bluetooth devices nearby. Busy signal environments, like bike shops or city centres, can interfere.

Our latest update includes a set of Bluetooth refinements aimed squarely at issues like this. Once you're on it, updates and connections both tend to behave a lot better. If you can get the update to complete even once, most of the instability should be behind you.

Update keeps failing, no matter what?

If you've tried the above a few times (OTA, Bluetooth, or both) and it just won't complete, stop trying over Bluetooth. It's not going to sort itself out by repetition.

Your best move is to visit a store rather than contact us remotely. They can connect your bike directly to our diagnostic tool via cable, which updates the bike without relying on Bluetooth or OTA at all, and they can see the bike in person while doing it. It's quick, reliable, and sidesteps the issue entirely. Plus, they'll be able to see if the bike is showing any other errors while it's connected.

If something else turns out to be wrong, the store will loop us in. In almost all cases, we're able to help solve it remotely from there, so you won't need to contact us yourself first.

Bike stuck blinking purple (LILA)?

If your bike keeps blinking LILA but the app says the update failed, press the 'O' button for 20 seconds so the bike resets itself. After that, your bike should be rideable again.
